What kind of markers do you use?
I’m all about giving away my “secrets”, so I love the chance to share with you what products I use and how you can do the same things at home! I use all sorts of different tools, but my standard go-to marker is a Molotow marker, which can be found at your local craft and hobby store. They are refillable, highly opaque and very smooth to write with.
Do you trace your letters?
Never! All our designs are handmade at the start. I’m always looking at fonts and letters and the ways words flow together, and I love the idea of using lettering and design to put emphasis on words that are significant to you. Once a design is hand drawn, we import most of them to the computer and tweak them a little. However one of the things that we think makes them most beautiful is the handmade feel of things, so we never over-edit our items.
I saw something on Etsy, can you make it for me?
I love the idea of making something that is important to you, but I don’t love the idea of stealing another artist’s work. As a hand-letterer I’m part of an awesome community of people who encourage, and inspire each other regularly- so there will inevitably be similarities between other artist’s work. However my best advice, if you’ve seen something someone else made that you love, is to buy it from them!
I really like this font, can you replicate it?
When working on a custom order, I do my best to understand what you love about different styles and keep it fitting with your style so you will have a piece that fits well in your home for years to come. Having said that, it’s also important to me to maintain my own sense of individuality in my art, combining my style with yours. If there’s a font you are in love with that you want exactly, it’s probably best to work with an artist that uses fonts and computer programs or vinyl to replicate things.
Is your dog named after the famous comedian Bill Cosby?
Yes….yes he is. But please don’t tell him that, we don’t want him to develop insecurities.
Do you do fundraisers and giveaways?
Absolutely! One of the absolute best parts of starting this business is the doors that have opened up for us to give generously. At Cobblestone Road, we believe we’ve been blessed beyond measure again and again by both the generosity of others and of God- so we love the chance to support causes we believe in by giving things away all the time! Please see our contact page to ask specific inquiries.
How is pricing based for custom orders?
Once you fill out a custom order inquiry we will begin working with you personally to create something that is just right. Our prices vary, but are mainly based on size/time involved in the piece. As a hand-letterer it’s more important to be to make sure your custom-piece is exactly what you want, no matter how many hours it takes, so I never bill an hourly rate. A ballpark estimate that we give people is $30 for an 8×10 or equivalent, and $150 for a poster-sized piece.
Do you design logos or do wall murals for businesses?
Absloutely! Hop over to our custom order contact page and fill out the inquiry form and someone will be in contact with you shortly.
