Hi! I’m Jenn. I’m kind of the right hand (trust me…my left hand writes terribly) girl here at Cobblestone Road, and I really love words. Since I can remember I’ve loved writing and putting words together. It wasn’t until my husband gave me a family Bible of his that had New and Old Testament dictionaries in the back that I realized how much I love them (you’d think all those visits to Thesaurus.com would have tipped me off). I would spend the longest time looking up the different meaning of words and cross-referencing it (meanwhile doing many other- much less nerdy things…seriously). I happen to believe that words are very powerful, and love the idea of using them to bring meaning and purpose into our lives and homes.
I remember watching my dad and brother draw incredible pictures growing up, and being amazed at the talent it took to create them. I still have framed drawings that my dad made when he was 16 years old. Despite the talent it takes to create beautiful creations like this, two of my most treasured pieces of art are the very first card I ever received from our son, with the words “I love you mommy” written in his scratchy, hard-to-read, lettering and our daughter’s kindergarten self-portrait (where she has purple teeth).
This love of words and a passion for creating beautiful things started to melt together as I began making little hand-lettered gifts for friends and family. Over and over again I’d hear people say “Hey Jenn! You really need an online shop!”, to which I’d reply “Aint nobody got time for that!” Enter: Corey (husband, love of my life, hero, man-crush and resident stud). Corey really began to challenge me to believe what they were saying was true and these two things could combine to create really cool stuff that brings meaningful words into peoples lives and homes. Knowing someone I had the highest level of respect for really believed in me, kind of gave me wings (did I just say that? “gave me wings”?!)
I got really excited at the idea of making things that would remind people daily of significant moments in their lives. It was humbling to me that people would open up to me with glimpses into their stories, what God was teaching them, or reminders of what they had come through. When I decided to launch Cobblestone Road Hand Lettering, I thought it would be a little side business that could maybe add a few extra date nights into our budget. However, since I’m surrounded by the most amazingly supportive group of people (yeah…that’s you reader) within three months we had over 500 followers and were an LLC. I still shake my head at that sometimes!
That’s just the beginning of this cool little endeavor of ours. When we’re not rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes (don’t worry- we still ship to Michigan), and having dance parties in the living room with our three hilariously fun kids and our trusty Beagle, we’re daydreaming ways to make Cobblestone Road even better. Sometimes I stay awake at night brainstorming ways that we can take everything from your wedding vows, to your Grandma’s favorite hymn and make them a part of your everyday life and your home.
Here at Cobblestone Road we’re always looking for ways to combine encouraging and powerful phrases with products you will use, pass on, and love, so we have new products often. We love the idea of using our products to share love, and encouragement so many of the items we sell are geared toward building relationships. We’re also huge supporters of second chances, so you’ll often find unique items from thrift stores and junkyards that have been repurposed to be beautiful pieces now.
While many of our items are printed through a local, family-owned printing company, there are some things we will always make by hand. We believe that part of the beauty of hand-lettering is the chance to engage in relationships with the people around us. Hand-lettering gives me the opportunity to pray personally over a piece, to understand what makes those words meaningful to you, and to be a part of that piece of your story (something a piece of vinyl from a printer just can’t do).
